Google has be granted a patent for MapReduce. Patent 7650331 entitled "System and method for efficient large-scale data processing" was filed in June 2004, and granted 19th January 2010.
Hi Mateusz, consensus that I've read seems to be that the patent won't impact implementations such as Hadoop, so I think Boost.MapReduce should be Ok too. I suspect the patent is to protect the technology right for Google rather than to prevent implementations in the field. I am no patent lawyer, though.
Craig, I'm curious, how would that influence status of the Boost.MapReduce if at all. Any insights?
